Hey Au Pairs!

Typically most au pairs wish to find a host family in a big city, but why not consider au pairing in a smaller town? Small towns have plenty to offer! I’ve au paired in the small and charming town of Zamora, Spain and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It had everything I needed and more. So, why not take the road less traveled and see the beauty of living the small town life?

1. Not as Competitive to Find a Host Family

Finding a host family to au pair for in a big city can be competitive because there are many wishful au pairs who are also searching for the same thing. So, choosing to au pair in a smaller town allows you the opportunity to be as picky as you want in searching for a host family as there are usually a plethora of families looking for an au pair! Chances are you can find the perfect host family for you and you won’t have to worry about the level of competitiveness associated with finding a family in major cities.

2. More Authentic Cultural Experience

If what you’re looking for is a more authentic cultural experience smaller towns are the way to go! You can perfect your language skills this way too and meet locals. Being one of few foreigners in my small town meant people were interested in talking to me and getting to know me. I met so many lovely Spanish people this way that I still keep in touch with to this day!

3. Cheaper Lifestyle

If you’re at all concerned about how you’ll be able to live off of your weekly pocket money fear not as living in a smaller town means prices are usually lower! This can be because the prices aren’t hiked up for the tourists as they would be in bigger cities. Thus, your weekly pocket money can go a long way in smaller towns. I recall being able to save quite a bit of my pocket money during my time as an au pair in my small town.
